Meet Rhea Kulcsar: Jewelry designer and small business owner

Rhea Kulcsar grew up in a small town in Ohio, with big dreams. As a young girl she always knew she was going to follow a creative career path, stating, “I knew very early on that I wanted to create wearable art.” Rhea worked on various art are craft programs throughout her life that helped set her up for her blooming jewelry business she has today.

Rhea started her career in fashion by attending Kent State University and FIT, where she studied fashion design and metalworking. Upon graduation she knew Ohio wasn’t going to fulfill her dreams and decided to relocate to New York City. She landed a job with a luxury handbag company then went on to work for Calvin Klein where she helped with the company’s finances and gained a strong knowledge of the business side of fashion.

Rhea had been designing and making jewelry for 10 years before she decided to launch her brand and commit full time to running her own business. She started out with designing custom and capsule collections of her handmade jewelry as a side job and hoppy before she took a huge leap this past November when she launched a new signature line to the public. She’s been in the business for about a year, and is still learning everyday about the hard work that it takes to maintain a business.

Rhea’s goal is to offer beautifully designed, handcrafted jewelry at an affordable price. She uses all natural stones and intricate metal designs to ensure any customer of hers will turn a few heads while wearing her pieces. In her collection you will find a juxtaposition of materials including: natural geodes and gemstones, crystals, metal fused stones, gold, chains, and tassels. Rhea makes and manufactures all of her jewelry right in New York City making her a completely U.S based company. She designs mostly one of a kind pieces due to the nature of the stones she uses. This ensures her customers get unique pieces, they wont be able to find anywhere else.

When talking about what inspires her collections, she expresses her love for the city is the root to all her inspiration. She uses the city as her muse, whether it’s from art galleries to nightlife rhea’s jewelry is a direct reflection of how she sees the city. Her point of view as a designer is “expect the unexpected” meaning she never knows when inspiration is going to hit or what it will be driven from.
